SOLIDSTEEL
Since their introduction in 1991, Solidsteel audio tables have
established a new level of technical and aesthetic refinement for audio component support
and isolation. The company was founded by two men with divers backgrounds but the same
goal: to build a truly high-end hifi table. One was the president of a firm distributing
many top audio lines in Italy. The other had years of experience working for the renowned
Italian motorcycle company Ducati. Solidsteel tables therefore reflect both an
audiophiles dedication and a true expertise in metalworking.
After a relatively short time, Solidsteel has gained worldwide
recognition for its advances in design and manufacturing techniques. The international
press has universally praised the tables for the improvements they can make to an audio or
audio/video system.
The Solidsteel line offers a choice of audio tables with three or four
legs, as well as specific stands and bases for speakers and large amplifiers, and also
isolation accessories. Our philosophy is that there should be no compromise in the build
quality or benefits to sonic performance, and that the products reflect the Italian
"style" of design: use of excellent materials; clean lines; well-considered
utilization of space; and attention to detail. Specifically:
- The tubular frames used in the tables, stands and bases are produced from
steel and finished in black or anti-resonant paint.
- We reinforce this frame by inserting a crimped steel bar at the end of
every tube.
- All spurious mechanical energies are discharged into the ground through
height-adjustable spikes - produced from stainless steel - that can be inserted directly
into the steel bars.
- The spikes are removable to allow the frame to be filled with sand, lead
shot or other similar types of damping materials.
- The final assembly of each table is done by hand, utilizing a
"castoline" welding technique similar to the one employed in the classic
construction of fine motorcycles.
- All shelves are produced from high-density MDF, a significantly better
material for this application than what is generally used . The benefits of MDF (compared
to particle board) include a much higher damping factor and superior rigidity over time.
- All shelves have the considerable thickness of 19 mm / 0.75 inch (or 30
mm / 1.2 inch on the Model 64) and are laminated in black or gray.
- To minimize resonances, every shelf is supported - and therefore isolated
- from the frame by three duraluminium cones, which are positioned to precisely discharge
unwanted energies into the chassis and then, by design, into the ground. This isolation
through cones provides better acoustic neutrality and also offers a new degree of
flexibility: if so desired, a user can, for example, fill the depressions into which the
cones fit with silicone of different viscosities, thereby changing the overall acoustic
response of the table and the electronics it supports.

The Model 64 is surely the most sophisticated SOLIDSTEEL table produced
to date. Expressly developed for use with the highest-quality electronics, its structural
characteristics and dimensions make it noteworthy even among the tables in our product
line. Large components fit easily onto this table, leaving room for proper air
circulation. In fact, everything about the model 64 is "overbuilt". From the
steel frame, reinforced at the base, to the 30 mm- / 1.2 inch-thick MDF shelves that are
specially decoupled from the frame, to the functionally elegant spikes.
 |
|
Model 64.
Four-leg table, steel frame with additional intrastructural reinforcements, anti-resonant
finish. Four 30 mm- / 1.2 inch-thick MDF shelves in matte finish. Each shelf supported on
special duraluminium cones plus decoupling screws. For electronics and turntables. |
Audio / audio-video tables
The H.1 horizontal table is the first Solidsteel product designed
specifically for high-end audio or audio/video systems. Although it is ideal for A/V
applications, like all of the other SOLIDSTEEL models, those critical considerations for
audio enthusiasts have also been anticipated: Because of it s exceptional length and
weight, the top shelf rests not only on three cones but also is mechanically isolated and
supported by special decoupling devices located on its underside - just as on our flagship
Model 64; each shelf is constructed from MDF and is individually isolated on three
duraluminium cones.
 |
|
Model H1.
Six-leg table, steel frame with anti-resonant finish. Five MDF shelves in matte finish.
Each shelf supported on special duraluminium cones plus decoupling crews under the top.
For electronic equipment, audio/video products and turntables. |
With the introduction of the SS family, Solidsteel has placed products
in this category of speaker stands that maintain all the extraordinary characteristics
which distinguish our audio tables. It is normally of critical importance for the
performance of monitor-type loudspeakers to have them positioned at the correct height.
Additionally, since this type of speaker is often relatively light in weight compared to
floor-standing units, it is essential to maintain high stability and rigidity. And, as
with all components, proper decoupling must be considered. The Solidsteel SS series fill a
long-standing need regarding the proper set-up and enjoyment of monitor speakers, and must
in may ways be considered as important as the units they support.
- The structure and diameter of the three vertical tubular supports are
identical to those found on our flagship Model 64.
- The stainless steel spikes are removable to allow the frame to be filled
with sand, lead shot or other similar types of damping materials.
- At those points where the frame supports the top plate, high-precision
ball-bearings are utilized, providing an exceedingly high level of speaker isolation.
- This top plate is interchangeable, ensuring a high degree of optimization
with the greatest number of monitor loudspeakers.
- The SS stands are supplied with "blue-tak" - a sonically
neutral material used to properly affix the speaker to the top plate.

Bases for power amplifiers
In high-quality hifi systems, it is always a good idea to keep the power
amp well away from the preamp and source components. It is in fact preferable to have
ones amp rest on an entirely different surface than the other equipment. With this
in mind, Solidsteel has thus developed the model A and Model B, perhaps the most advanced
power amp tables ever built. Specifically designed for units that weigh at least six (6)
kilograms / 13 pounds, the Models A and B can accommodate virtually every power amp
currently available.
- The frames are constructed from steel and finished in black or silver
anti-resonant paint.
- The legs can be fitted with height-adjustable stainless steel spikes.
- The shelves are produced from 22 mm- / 0.85 inch-thick MDF.
- Decoupling between the chassis and the shelf is achieved via
constrained-layer damping: A special layer of resonance-deadening rubber is sandwiched
between two stiffer rubber discs; this three-section "shock absorber" is then
inserted between the shelf and the tables legs.
 |
| Model A - Model B.
Four-leg power amp table, steel frame with anti-resonant finish. One MDF shelf in matte
gray finish. Composite rubber decoupling between frame and shelf. |

Model X1-X2. Three-leg speaker stand, "U" shaped steel frame with black
anti-resonant finish, utilizing height-adjustable stainless steel spikes and decoupling
duraluminium cones. |
 |
|
Model SS801. Four-leg speaker stand, steel frame with black anti-resonant finish.
Duraluminium decoupling cones - type CD6 - supplied. Height-adjustable, stainless steel
spikes. The SS-801 has been specifically developed for use with the B&W 801
loudspeaker, one of the most popular speaker products of the last two decades. Its steel
structure is identical to that utilized in SOLIDSTEEL's most sophisticated model, the 64
SuperTable. Four large machined aluminium cones support and isolate the loudspeaker, which
will attain - when positioned correctly - the height off the floor for proper driver
positioning. |
