Circuitry
The signal path is fully balanced from input to output and uses FETs
exclusively
The audio circuitry must be capable of amplifying the musical signal without
alteration. To this end, the Ayre V-1 circuit is a complementary design using no negative
feedback. The circuit's elegant topology comprises a cascoded differential input stage
followed by a source-follower output stage. This straightforward approach results in
remarkable immediacy and musical purity.
The output stage incorporates 32 high-power devices per channel, enabling the V-1 to
effortlessly drive the most demanding loudspeakers to real-life playback levels. The Ayre
V-1 is a true DC amplifier, ensuring powerful reproduction of the deepest fundamental
tones. Subtle musical nuances are delivered with complete fidelity.
Power Supply
Separate power supplies are provided for the input-stage and output-stage
audio circuits
The power
supply must deliver a virtually limitless source of unalloyed direct current to the audio
circuitry. Leading the industry with the sophistication of our designs, ultra-high-speed
rectifiers combine with inductor-input filtering to yield exceptionally pure DC power.
A zero-feedback master pre-regulator supplies power to both channels of the input-stage
audio circuit. Eight additional fully discrete FET regulators are provided, two for each
gain stage in each channel. Our exclusive Ayre Conditioner
assures the cleanest possible power from your AC line.
Logic Functions
Sophisticated circuitry detects power failures as well as low line voltage
conditions and DC fault conditions, instantly removing power from the output stage
The Ayre V-1's functional status is indicated by a unique tri-color LED on the front
panel. When first powered-up, the unit operates in standby mode while the circuitry
stabilizes, indicated by a red display. It then automatically enters into the ready
condition, shown by a green display. When the listener activates the standby selector
switch, the indicator glows a soft blue.
Remote Control
Remote operation of the power standby switch maximizes listener convenience
The remote control is implemented with a commensurate level of attention to detail. The
incoming infrared command is used to generate its own decoding signal. This assures
absolute freedom from the high-frequency interference that conventional
microprocessor-based decoders create.
